Illumination

The Karamon Gate, one of Kyoto's most iconic historical structures, is illuminated to enhance its architectural beauty. The cranes, lions, and other creatures carved into the gate are highlighted by the illuminations to present a showcase that can only be seen at night.

National Treasure: Ninomaru Palace

Tanabata Fu-ring (Wind Chimes) Light-Up

The Tanabata Wind Chimes, which play cool tones along with the lights that highlight the beauty of the National Treasure Ninomaru Palace, will make their first appearance this year in collaboration with the “Kyo no Tanabata” event! The sparkling sound of the wind chimes, together with strips of paper hung with wishes for the Tanabata Festival, will add color to the fantastic summer evening.

Projection Mapping Show “Yomiya-ezu” (Night before the festival)

This spectacular projection mapping show appears animals in the gorgeous paintings by the prominent Kano school of Japanese painting. It will leap out with fireworks and decorate the 75m-wide stone wall. We are also pleased to bring you an early preview video for the Main Palace, scheduled to open in next September.

A refreshing Light-up that allows you to enjoy the lush green foliage of Seiryu-en Garden while feeling the night breeze. The delicate lights sparkle like fireflies dancing on a summer night.

Ennichi Festivities & Bon Odori (Bon Dance) area

Ennichi Festivities and Bon Odori (Bon dance) venue, brightly lit by lanterns, will feature a Festival Yagura (Festival Tower) for the first time! During the Bon Odori time, when visitors can enjoy dancing together, the Digital Ennichi Festivities within the venue will also have special performances limited to this time. You can enjoy Bon Odori around the Festival Yagura.

Try out this digital take on Japanese festival "o-men" masks! Stand on the marked location and watch as your face is scanned and developed into a hyper "o-men" mask! This year, to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the theatrical release of the animated film 'Summer Wars' (directed by Mamoru Hosoda), a special collaboration festival fair will feature a fusion of characters from the movie and your face. *Free of charge
